He Could Have Chosen the Sofa

As a trainer, I know puppies really love to steal a roll of toilet paper and decorate the house with it.

My little monster managed to combine a little problem-solving with a whole lot of entertainment.

Jasper says, “one roll is not good enough.” Nope. He thinks anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

He figured out how to open the cabinet door and removed EVERY SINGLE ROLL, and shredded the bunch.

What a mess! Was I upset? Yeah, but only for a nano second.

Toilet paper is cheap, the mess is easy to clean up, and he had a wonderful time.

At Jasper’s stage of development, chewing is not something he, or really any puppy his age, can control.

Chewing is just how these little predators explore, play, and investigate their world. Like human babies, everything goes into the mouth to taste and decide if it is good to eat.

When puppies start teething, they chew even more to soothe their sore gums. It’s calming, and it relieves boredom and anxiety.

It’s also an outlet for their natural canine impulses. First, the puppy has to find and capture his toilet paper victim, then the tearing and shredding simulates a successful hunt.

If anyone was at fault, it was me. I should have watched him more closely. Honestly, I didn’t know he was that smart.

As for Jasper, he showed remarkably good judgment.

He could have chosen the sofa.
