Tell Me About The In Home Training

Most behavior problems begin in the home and that is the best place to solve them. That’s why In Home Training is such a popular and great choice for dog owners.

Training takes place in your home and around your neighborhood. That we can address the actual triggers and distractions your dog faces every day, not staged scenarios in a sterile classroom. If your dog loses his mind at the front door, that’s exactly where we’ll work.

The way it works is I come once a week and together we work on a behavior. Then you practice that behavior and when I come back the next week, we’ll review your progress, make any necessary adjustments, and then work on the next behavior.

Since this is a private lesson we focus on those issues that are most important to you, not some one else’s. You will 100% of my attention to answer your questions and know how to communicate clear rules and expectations to your pet in a way your he can understand.

A Shared Family Experience
In Home Obedience training lets the whole family get involved, even the kids. When everyone is on the same page, your dog learns more quickly and to listen to everyone. It turns puppy raising into a shared, bonding experience rather than a one-person chore.

What Is Charm School?

Charm School is Family Dog Training’s boutique board and train program, where your dog lives with me in my home and my pets. Other trainers describe their board and train programs as “boot camps.” But your dog is not a marine, why treat him like one?

Why Is That Important?

It’s natural for a dog to be anxious or nervous in new, unfamiliar environments, but my Port Saint Lucie home feels familiar, so he can relax and focus on learning. Because he lives right with me, I notice everything: how he’s adjusting, whether he’s eating, or if he has a tummy ache or an itchy ear.

Charm School is for real life. Commands like sit, down, stay, come, loose-leash walking, and leave it are practiced amid doorbells, delivery drivers, lawn mowers, and vacuum cleaners: the everyday chaos that triggers problem behaviors at home. He doesn’t just learn commands; he learns how to behave.

And training never stops. A potty break, a walk, mealtime, every moment is a chance to practice. Multiple repetitions happen naturally throughout the day, so learning happens fast.

There’s also room to just be a dog. Free time inside and out, play sessions, and, for social dogs, playgroups in my spacious, fenced yard where my personal nanny dogs Kooper and Jack teach proper dog etiquette.

The Hand Off

Training isn’t finished until he’s back home, settled in, and showing off his new skills in his own environment. That’s why ongoing hands-on support is built into the program.

It starts at the Hand-off, where I show you everything he’s learned and make sure he’s listening to you before he leaves. From there, you’ll know exactly how to maintain his good behavior, and what to do if he doesn’t respond. Three in home follow up sessions are included.

What Age To Start Training?

It’s never too early to start training. Puppies are little sponges, eager to learn, and learn quickly. Starting early prevents serious problems down the road. Puppies should be a at least 8 weeks old, have at least of one set of  vaccines 7 days prior to the first lesson and de-wormed. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the program.
